This app gives you both options. If you have a small object to measure, just use the ruler function. If you want to measure something larger, take out the AR tape measure and use your camera and AR capabilities.

PLNAR takes the AR camera measurement concept and elevates it to new heights. PLNAR was built with professionals in mind and has support for creating 2D and 3D floor plans with the AR distance measurements it takes. Sometimes you will need to measure longer distances, including the distance that you’ve covered in a walk. This is where Map My Walk is a great option. If you’re interested in measuring the distance between, say, your home, and the nearest supermarket, you can track your walk with Map My Walk.
