A fresh Vision Pro Developer Strap may be arriving soon! Learn how upgraded connectivity could transform testing and debugging for developers.
Apple might be quietly preparing a new version of its Vision Pro Developer Strap. A recent update on Apple’s official Developer site mentions that the strap will be “available to order on 10/22,” hinting at an upgraded model launching soon, possibly alongside new hardware or software enhancements for the Vision Pro.
The Developer Strap, priced at $300, allows developers to connect the Vision Pro headset to a Mac using a USB-C cable. This wired link makes it easier to test and debug visionOS apps while offering a secure data connection between the headset and the computer. The first-generation strap was designed to replace the right-side audio assembly and provided a wired interface mainly for development, not performance, since it only supported USB 2.0 speeds.
The update was first noticed by Reddit user Mastoraz, who spotted the new “available to order” note on Apple’s Developer page for the Vision Pro. Until now, Apple hadn’t hinted at a second-generation Developer Strap, and the accessory hadn’t been out of stock or marked as discontinued. The timing—just ahead of October 22, suggests Apple could be gearing up to introduce a refreshed version designed to complement the M5-powered Vision Pro model.
Reddit users quickly speculated about what might be new. Some believe Apple could upgrade the connection to USB 3.2 Gen 2 or even Thunderbolt, improving data transfer speeds significantly. Others pointed out that the existing strap technically lists support for USB 3 and DisplayPort, though those capabilities have never been enabled in software. A few developers also noted that the new version might be backward-compatible with the M2 Vision Pro.
If Apple indeed launches a faster strap, developers could see much smoother workflows when testing graphics-intensive apps and games in Reality Composer Pro or Xcode. Faster wired data transfer would also make it easier to mirror the headset’s display on a Mac with minimal lag, a big help for debugging and performance testing.
Interestingly, Apple’s official Developer site quietly describes the strap as a way to “accelerate development of graphics-intensive apps and games,” hinting that this may be more than just a restock. That subtle change in wording suggests real performance improvements could be on the way.
While Apple hasn’t officially commented on the update, the October 22 availability date aligns closely with the broader rollout of new Apple hardware this month. Whether this will be a minor refresh or a major upgrade, developers will find out soon enough, and they’re clearly hoping this time, the cable finally lives up to its potential.
