Apple Planning Major Siri Overhaul With Chatbot Experience

Apple is planning a major Siri overhaul, turning it into a chatbot-style AI with text and voice interactions across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apple is reportedly working on a major Siri overhaul that could turn the assistant into a full AI chatbot experience on iPhone and Mac. A new Bloomberg report from Mark Gurman says the update will introduce a redesigned Siri interface that supports both voice and typed input, similar to chatbots from Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and others.

The report suggests Apple wants Siri to feel more conversational and flexible, letting users interact with the assistant the way they do with modern AI chatbots. The refreshed interface would replace the current Siri experience across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apple’s Chatbot Siri Could Use Google Gemini

According to Gurman, the chatbot version of Siri will use a custom Google Gemini AI model as part of Apple’s multi-year partnership with Google, announced earlier this year. He adds that this Siri version will deliver capabilities that “significantly surpass” the near-term personalization improvements.

This Update Is Separate From iOS 26.4 Siri Improvements

Gurman says the chatbot-style Siri revamp is separate from the near-term AI-powered personalization upgrades expected to arrive in the next few months.

Additionally, the upcoming Siri improvements in iOS 26.4 are still expected to run on Apple’s own Private Cloud Compute servers, introduced in 2024 as a privacy-focused alternative to traditional cloud processing.

Private Cloud Compute relies on Apple-designed server hardware built around high-end Mac chips. Apple has positioned the system as one that processes requests temporarily and does not store user requests. The company also claims it cannot access user data processed through the system. Those privacy claims have become a key part of Apple’s broader Apple Intelligence messaging.

WWDC Reveal Expected Before September Launch

Apple is expected to preview the upgraded Siri, codenamed Campos, at WWDC in June before releasing it in September. Gurman says it will be positioned as the biggest new addition to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, with most other changes focused largely on stability and performance.
