9to5Mac’s summaries of Bloomberg’s September 30 reporting describe a 6-inch square display on a half-dome speaker base and point to an October 13 debut. The tabletop design reportedly recalls the iMac G4, with a metal arm holding the display above its base.
The screen is said to have a gray aluminum finish, rounded corners, and black bezels about a quarter inch wide. The base reportedly has a rubberized bottom and rings of speaker holes. Users may be able to tilt the display forward or back.
The same report says the tabletop model would use USB-C for power and have no built-in battery, so it would need to stay plugged in. It reportedly has no volume or power buttons, plus a front-facing FaceTime camera without a rear camera.
Apple may offer a wall-mounted version
The report also describes a wall-mounted version. It would place a thin, square speaker and microphone base below the display, with USB-C power.
The 6-inch screen is smaller than the roughly 7-inch panel described in an earlier report on Apple’s Home Hub. Apple has not announced the device or confirmed the date or design, so the specifications remain unverified.
