Apple has announced HomeView, a 7-inch smart display that sits on a table or mounts on a wall. Both versions cost $299 in the US. Apple made the announcement on October 13, the day of its "Welcome home" event, and pre-orders open today.
A 7-inch screen for a shelf or a wall
The tabletop model pairs the display with a domed speaker base. Apple says it can sit on a table "as the center of the home," while the wall-mounted version fits spots like the entryway or hallway. Both use the same 7-inch Liquid Retina display. Earlier design reports had put the screen at 6 inches, so Apple’s spec settles the question.
Sound comes from two custom full-range drivers in the display on the tabletop model. The base adds a down-firing woofer and two force-cancelling passive radiators. The wall-mounted model has two custom drivers of its own. The device uses the A18 chip that earlier reports had named.
Up to six people get their own Home Screen
HomeView recognizes up to six people by face, and each one gets a personal Home Screen with their own apps and widgets. Personal content in apps like Messages and Calendar only appears when the enrolled person is recognized. Apple also says data processed in Secure Exclaves cannot be accessed by the HomeView software, apps, the user, or Apple.
Apple’s Greg Joswiak, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, put the idea this way: "Apple HomeView is designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user."
Camera recognition needs an iCloud+ plan
Camera recognition runs on a supported iCloud+ subscription. With one, HomeView can recognize people, familiar faces, pets, packages, and vehicles on compatible cameras. It also gives video descriptions for HomeKit Secure Video footage. Apple says the number of cameras supported depends on the plan.
HomeView can also detect the sound of smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and alert users on their iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. It works with Matter and other Works with Apple Home accessories.
Apple is also launching a separate lineup of smart-home accessories, the Apple Home Collection, designed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. It starts in December, and select accessories follow in early 2027.
Siri AI is English-only and in beta
Siri AI is in beta in HomeView software version 27.2 and works only in English for now. Canadian French will arrive through a free software update. Earlier reporting on Apple’s J490 home hub had already described a device built around Siri AI.
Siri has limits. Some Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side models have daily usage limits, and Apple says expanded access will cost a fee in the future. Personal context requests need a paired iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence. Expressive Siri voices need an iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 Pro, or an iPad with an M4 chip or later and at least 12GB of memory.
Apple is not selling HomeView in the European Union because Siri AI is not currently available in iOS there.
Pre-orders open today, and shipping starts November 13
Both models carry the same US price and come in different colors.
| Model | US price | Colors |
|---|---|---|
| HomeView tabletop | $299 | Silver, starlight, rose pink, space gray |
| HomeView wall-mounted | $299 | Space gray, silver |
Both models ship on November 13 in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, the UK, and the US. Power Mount accessories start at $59.95 for the USB-C Wall Connector and $79.95 for the AC Wired model. The PoE Wired model costs $129.95 and arrives in early 2027.
Two things to check before pre-ordering
The EU gap and the iCloud+ requirement matter most. If you live in the EU, HomeView is not an option for now. If you want the camera features, factor in an iCloud+ plan and check how many cameras that plan covers.
On apps, Apple names Apple Music and Apple TV, plus compatible third-party audio and video apps. The announcement does not mention an App Store.
Much of the earlier reporting holds up. The HomeView name, the A18 chip, the tabletop colors, and a mid-November launch all match Apple’s announcement. A July Bloomberg report had put the launch between October 2026 and early 2027, and the November 13 date now settles the timing.
