AirTag 2 Leak Unveils Five Key Upgrades Before Launch
New iOS 26 leaks reveal Apple’s next AirTag with smoother pairing, better Precision Finding and smarter tracking. The code also hints at a refreshed HomePod mini coming soon.

A refreshed AirTag expected in 2025 seemed likely to miss its mark as the year closes out. Yet, recent leaks indicate Apple’s next-gen tracker might be closer to release than previously thought, boasting several notable advancements.
Five Upgrades Spotted in iOS 26 Code
In a revealing report, Filipe Espósito from Macworld identified references to AirTag 2 within a leaked build of iOS 26. Espósito, who recently shared insights on updates for the next Studio Display, points to some leaked code strings for these findings.
Espósito’s analysis found that AirTag 2, now internally tagged as “2025AirTag,” could feature several enhancements:
- A streamlined pairing process
- Boosted Precision Finding capabilities
- More detailed battery level tracking
- “Improved Moving,” potentially enhancing in-motion tracking
- Enhanced accuracy in crowded settings
Based on these code indications, Apple seemed to have aimed for a 2025 release for the updated AirTag. Whether they can still deliver within this timeframe is uncertain.
New HomePod Mini Also Referenced
The same leaked iOS code points to the development of a new HomePod mini featuring an S10 chip. Earlier leaks have suggested a refresh, and this latest discovery backs up the notion that Apple is working on an updated model.
