WhatsApp is giving some Mac beta testers a choice between getting new builds as often as daily or using a steadier weekly release. The new controls apply only to the beta app, and availability is still limited.
According to WABetaInfo, recent WhatsApp beta builds for Mac are gaining an App updates section in Settings. It shows the installed version, includes a Check for updates button, and lets testers switch update tracks without reinstalling the app.
Daily builds or a steadier weekly release
The setting offers two choices with different trade-offs:
- Latest version: Can receive daily builds with new fixes and stability improvements. It may also get features before the weekly build, but work-in-progress bugs are more likely.
- Stable weekly version: Bundles changes into one update per week, usually before the weekend, for a more predictable experience.
Both tracks are meant to receive the same core features. The difference is how quickly a tester gets them and how much beta instability they are willing to accept.
This does not affect the stable Mac app
WABetaInfo says WhatsApp discontinued its Mac beta through TestFlight earlier this year. Testers now download beta builds directly from WhatsApp’s servers, and the new controls bring update choices into the app, much like other non-App Store Mac apps.
The regular WhatsApp app for Mac remains separate from this beta track. If you use the public version, these daily and weekly choices do not change how your app updates.
The new section is rolling out gradually to some Mac beta testers. WhatsApp has not announced when every tester will get it or whether similar controls will come to the stable app.
