Purported iPhone Fold CAD Files Reveal Apple’s Foldable iPhone Design
Newly surfaced CAD files appear to reveal the design of Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone, including a dual-camera system, hinge-based body, and internal display camera placement.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone may have appeared in early design files shared publicly. Images of what are described as 3D CAD rendering files show a device with a foldable form factor, a dual‑camera rear system, and a hinge-based design that shapes the device’s exterior when closed.
The CAD files surfaced in images released by Sonny Dickson, a long‑time collector of unreleased Apple hardware prototypes and design materials. The images show the rear of the device and the layout of the phone when opened, offering a look at how Apple may be approaching the design of a foldable iPhone.
Rear Design Shows Dual Cameras on Raised Plateau
The files depict a camera module that resembles the raised plateau design used on Apple’s thinner iPhone Air hardware. Unlike that device, however, the foldable model appears to include two rear cameras rather than a single lens. The model as previously rumoured looks more like an iPad when unfolded.
The module sits across the back panel in a horizontal plateau that slightly elevates the camera hardware from the rest of the device. This layout suggests Apple may be prioritizing a slimmer folded body while still accommodating multiple cameras.
Hinge Placement Shapes the Device’s Corners
The CAD images show an unusual exterior shape. Two corners of the device appear rounded, while the opposite side features squared edges where the hinge mechanism would be located.
This combination indicates the hinge occupies a defined structural area along one side of the device. When folded, that hinge section would form the squared edge of the phone, while the opposite side maintains the more typical curved corner design seen on recent iPhones.
Open Layout Reveals Internal Display Camera Position
One image shows the phone in its unfolded state. The internal display appears to include a small circular cutout near the top-left corner, which likely houses the front-facing camera used when the device is opened like a tablet.
The design files also outline the outer edges of the device in both open and closed configurations, including the placement of the outer display that would be visible when the phone is folded shut.
CAD Files Appear During Typical Pre‑Launch Window
Design files for upcoming iPhone hardware commonly begin circulating months before release as accessory makers prepare cases and other hardware. CAD models allow those manufacturers to design products that match the dimensions and hardware placement of unreleased devices.
The details shown in the images broadly align with previously described hardware expectations for Apple’s foldable iPhone, including a book-style folding mechanism and a dual‑camera rear system.
Apple has not publicly confirmed plans for a foldable iPhone or announced any product with this design.
