Apple just dropped iOS 26 beta 8 and other OS betas. Here’s everything new, what it means for iPhone 17, and when the public release is coming.
Apple has rolled out developer beta 8 of its upcoming operating systems, including iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 Tahoe, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, and HomePod Software 26.
The latest build arrived just a week after the 7 beta, which appeared on August 18. The 8 beta of any major iOS update is usually the end of beta testing, so we expect Apple to seed the iOS 26 Release Candidate a few days before the iPhone 17 launch in September. You can expect the public release to appear a week after the launch event.
In addition to these, Apple also seeded RC 4 builds of macOS 15.7 (24G217) and macOS 14.8 (23J18) for testing.
The highlight feature across all Apple operating systems, be it iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, or visionOS, is the new Liquid Glass style UI. It’s a glass-based interface that adds layered transparency throughout the system UI and Apple apps.
Highlights per platform:
If you’re moving from the iOS 26 beta 7 to the 8 beta, don’t expect any visual differences, as it’s rare for beta 8 of any major iOS update to bring noticeable updates.
iGeeksBlog and Apple both advise against installing beta updates on your primary or mission-critical devices, as beta updates are known for carrying bugs and stability issues. Moreover, if you aren’t a developer or tester but are eager to preview the new features, go for the public beta updates instead.
