How to use Photographic Styles on iPhone 13

The latest iPhone 13 has significant camera improvements and features incorporated into it. But the one that’s a bit unique and stands out is the filter-like feature, Photographic Styles. It instantly got all photo enthusiasts probing their heads over it. But what exactly is it, and how to use it on the latest iPhone?

Read on to get all your answers. First, let’s start with the basics!

What are Photographic Styles?

Photographic Styles allow you to choose between five filter-like, preset photo styles when clicking a photo. You can choose any style and apply it right away rather than applying a custom filter post-production. Moreover, you can also set custom styles.

This enables you to capture a more realistic picture, not affecting the skin tone of your subjects, which is lost when applying filters from other third-party apps.

The 5 Photographic Styles are:

  • Standard (0 Tone, 0 Warmth) – The default setting captures the photo without any exposure changes.
  • Rich Contrast (-50 Tone, 0 Warmth) – Your photo gets richer colors and darker shadows, adding depth and tonality.
  • Vibrant (+50 Tone, 0 Warmth) – As the name suggests, it brightens the photo, adding vivid colors to it.
  • Warm (0 Tone, +50 Warmth) – Want to be sunkissed? This style will garner the pic with golden undertones, creating a warm look.
  • Cool ( 0 Tone, -50 Warmth) – Play it cool with this style as it sets the pic’s tone with a blueish-light undertone.

As you can see, there are only subtle changes, and you might have to take a closer look to understand how they actually make a difference. And as the name suggests, they’re Photographic Styles and not exactly Filters.

Styles only adequately modify the pic due to the varying exposure levels compared to filters, which have a massive change.

Do Photographic Styles deserve so much hype?

Do Photographic Styles deserve so much hype

Personally, I like filter apps that bring a dynamic change in the pic. So, if you’re looking for massive gradient/exposure changes in the pic, you might not find Photographic Styles helpful.

If you’re the person who loves to keep the pictures natural, with slight exposure/contrast changes depending on the setting, it can come in handy.

Now that you know how to use photographic Styles, it’s time you try it out yourself. You might instantly like this custom integration or have an altered opinion about it. Whatsoever, I would like to hear your thoughts on the same in the comments below.
