Rockstar Games has been keeping fans busy with tons of GTA 6 screenshots and gameplay details, but one thing that’s still unanswered is the PC release date. The game is all set to make its debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. However, the developer hasn’t uttered a word about a PC release. In the past, Rockstar has taken a year or more to bring its games to PC.
However, things might be a bit different this time around, thanks to a PS5 emulator called KyTyPS5. Although it’s still in development, the emulator might allow PC players to jump onto GTA 6 right after its console release. So, let’s take a look at what we’re talking about
PC Emulators might allow players to run GTA 6
Over the last couple of months, the KyTyPS5 emulator has gained a lot of attention in the gaming community as its developers have continued to make rapid progress. Not too long ago, the emulator was just capable of running simple 3D games. However, the PS5 emulator has reached another level, as it’s now capable of running GTA 5.
Over on X, BrutalSam has shared a video showing GTA 5 running through the KyTyPS5 emulator. It features the game’s prologue of the North Yankton mission running between 40-60 FPS. Of course, the emulator isn’t running the game perfectly. You can see tons of glitches, missing text, weird textures, and crashes. However, it’s still an achievement for the PS5 emulation scene, as even a AAA title like GTA 5 is now playable. The system that’s being used by the emulator is packed with an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU.
As we’ve already said before, the GTA 6 PC release date is still unknown. However, if PS5 emulators like KyTyPS5 are able to continue progressing at this pace and become powerful enough to run AAA games, there’s a good chance that GTA 6 could also be playable on PC with the help of emulation. However, this won’t be an easy job. Through the GTA 6 leaks and extended gameplay, it’s quite evident that this game is extremely detailed and graphically demanding to run.
The development team behind the KyTyPS5 emulator would need to do a lot of work before it can even think about running a game as heavy as GTA 6. Also, let’s not forget the fact that anyone who even wants to emulate Rockstar’s next magnum opus would need a high-end gaming PC. It’s going to be interesting to see in the coming months just how far the KyTyps5 emulator progresses, and whether it will allow players to experience GTA 6 on PC before an official port drops.
Rockstar Games could move up the GTA 6 PC release date
It’s heavily speculated that the GTA 6 PC version would debut sometime in late 2027 or early 2028. This comes from the fact that Rockstar has a history of delaying its game releases on PC. While there’s a good chance that the PS5 emulation projects could make the game playable on PC much sooner after launch, it now seems like even Rockstar’s official port could arrive sooner than we expected.
In a recent episode of the VGC podcast, reputable insider Andy Robinson suggested Rockstar might “push up the PC version” of GTA 6. According to him, there’s a lot of chatter in the industry surrounding the possibility of this happening, considering the current state of the hardware market. However, it’s crucial to note that Robinson hasn’t said this is a confirmed report.
The AI trend has hit the hardware market quite hard in the last couple of years. For instance, DRAM prices have reached new highs that have led to increased prices for phones, PCs, and even consoles. If that wasn’t bad enough, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles are facing supply issues thanks to the hype around GTA 6, which will only get even bigger as the game’s launch approaches.
Considering these factors, it makes sense for Rockstar to fast-track development on the GTA 6 PC version. It would allow the game to reach even larger audiences, including those who can’t get their hands on consoles. It’s also worth keeping in mind that the PC gaming market has grown considerably since the developer’s last release in 2018, which has made it a much larger audience that can’t be overlooked.
