Google sets Pixel 11 event for August 12 as Apple foldable iPhone rumors build

Google has sent invitations for its next Made by Google Pixel hardware event, scheduled for August 12 in New York City at 6 PM ET.

That puts Google’s next Pixel launch about a month before Apple’s usual September iPhone window, where the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and Apple’s first foldable iPhone are widely expected but still not official.

The timing gives Google a clean August stage for the Pixel 11 family before Apple pulls attention back to the iPhone. It also keeps the foldable phone conversation moving before Apple is expected to enter the category.

What Google is expected to show

The invitation points to Pixel hardware, and The Verge says the invite animation appears to tease a gold Pixel 11-family phone. Google has not confirmed the full lineup yet.

Leaks so far suggest the standard Pixel 11 may keep the same basic shape while cleaning up the details. Android Headlines’ CAD renders point to thinner bezels and an all-black camera bar, though the report cautions that CAD files are not always perfect for small design details.

The Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro Fold are also expected to be part of the cycle, but the final names, prices, storage options, and release dates still need Google’s confirmation at the event.

Apple’s foldable iPhone is still a reported launch

The Apple side of this story needs more caution. Apple has not announced a foldable iPhone, and there is no official September event invite yet.

Still, the latest foldable iPhone Ultra launch strategy reporting around Kuo’s supply-chain note points to an iPhone X-like pattern: Apple may reveal the device before broad availability, with limited third-quarter assembly shipments potentially pushing preorders or sales into the fourth quarter.

Why the timing matters

Google already moved its Pixel launch ahead of Apple’s iPhone cycle with the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10. Doing it again with Pixel 11 suggests the August slot is becoming intentional, not just a one-off calendar shift.

For Google, that means a better chance to own the premium Android conversation before Apple dominates September. For Apple, the rumored foldable iPhone changes the stakes because it would be the company’s first major iPhone shape change in years.

It may also make pricing a bigger part of the story. A recent foldable phone price report already suggested Apple’s entry could pull the category further into ultra-premium territory.

For now, Google’s event is the only confirmed date. The real comparison begins if Apple follows with a foldable iPhone reveal in September.
