Primate Labs has launched Geekbench 7, the latest version of its benchmarking tool for smartphones, tablets, PCs, and Macs. The update brings new CPU and GPU tests focused on AI, gaming, media processing, and content creation, while also changing how the benchmark measures multi-core performance.
Geekbench 7 arrives more than three years after Geekbench 6. During that time, on-device AI features, photo and video editing, and graphics-heavy apps have become far more common, so Primate Labs has updated many of the workloads used to measure device performance.
Geekbench 7 adds new AI, GPU, and media workloads
One of the biggest changes in Geekbench 7 is its updated GPU Benchmark, which now places greater emphasis on machine learning and content creation. The updated GPU Benchmark includes workloads based on face tracking for live video filters, AI image upscaling, virtual backgrounds in video calls, RAW image processing, video color grading, path tracing, and fluid simulation.
The update also adds support for Nvidia CUDA, joining existing GPU APIs including OpenCL, Vulkan, and Apple’s Metal.
The CPU benchmark now includes workloads for AV1 video encoding, Opus audio compression, and video playback with live captions generated using OpenAI’s Whisper speech recognition model. Primate Labs has also expanded the datasets used across several benchmarks, including file compression, PDF viewing, software development, and image-processing tests, to better reflect how today’s apps and software are used.
Multi-core testing has been updated
Geekbench 7 also changes how it measures multi-core performance. Instead of treating every workload as multi-threaded, Geekbench 7 now only uses multiple threads when the real-world task would actually benefit from them. As an example, Primate Labs says the HTML5 Browser test has been removed from the multi-core suite because web browsing is generally single-threaded or only lightly threaded.
Geekbench 7 is available starting today. The standard version remains free for personal use, while Geekbench 7 Pro is available at a 20% discount through August 6 as part of the launch promotion.
