Apple has ended its service programs for AirPods Pro and iPhone 12 sound issues, closing the window on free repairs for affected devices.
Apple has officially discontinued two of its long-running service programs that addressed sound issues on the original AirPods Pro and the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Both programs have now been removed from Apple’s list of active service initiatives.
These service programs were valid for three years from the device’s original purchase date. Since most eligible units have already aged out of coverage, the programs were no longer required. There is no word from Apple on what happens if someone recently purchased very old stock.
Launched in October 2020, the AirPods Pro service program focused on first-generation models manufactured before October 2020. It addressed issues such as crackling or static sounds and malfunctioning Active Noise Cancellation.
Apple or Apple Authorized Service Providers replaced the affected earbuds (left, right, or both) after verifying the issue through testing. Initially, the program offered two years of coverage, which was later extended to three years in October 2021.
For those unaware, Apple initiated a service program for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro to address a receiver module defect that caused sound issues during calls. Anyone with these devices was eligible for a free repair or replacement within three years of the original sale date if their iPhone stopped emitting sound during phone calls.
