Apple has officially unveiled the second generation of its premium over-ear headphones, the AirPods Max 2. The update arrives more than five years after the original model debuted and brings several new features, including improved active noise cancellation, live language translation, and lossless audio support.

Here’s everything new Apple has introduced with the AirPods Max 2.

The H2 chip allows AirPods Max 2 to support several adaptive listening technologies that automatically adjust the audio experience.

These include Adaptive Audio, which balances noise cancellation and transparency depending on your surroundings. Conversation Awareness lowers the media volume when the headphones detect someone speaking to you. Apple has also added Voice Isolation to improve call clarity by reducing background noise during phone or video calls.

Improved Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode

Apple says the new AirPods Max deliver noticeably stronger active noise cancellation compared to the previous generation. Updated microphones and audio algorithms help block more environmental noise while maintaining audio clarity.

The company has also refined Transparency mode, allowing users to hear surrounding sounds more naturally when needed.

Live Translation Powered by Apple Intelligence

AirPods Max 2 introduce live language translation, powered by Apple Intelligence. This feature can translate spoken conversations in real time, allowing users to hear the translation directly through their headphones during multilingual interactions.

Lossless Audio Support with USB-C Connection

The new headphones support 24-bit/48 kHz lossless audio when connected via USB-C. This provides higher fidelity playback for users who prefer wired listening. It also comes equipped with a high-dynamic-range amplifier designed to deliver cleaner sound with improved detail and dynamic range.

    Familiar Design with Premium Build

Despite the internal upgrades, the overall design remains largely unchanged. AirPods Max 2 continue to feature aluminum ear cups, a breathable mesh headband, and the Digital Crown for volume and playback controls.

Apple appears to have focused on improving performance rather than redesigning the hardware.

    Price and Availability

AirPods Max 2 are priced at $549 in the United States. Apple says preorders will begin on March 25, with availability starting in early April.

The headphones are expected to launch in multiple markets around the same time.
