MacBook Air Gets M5 Chip Upgrade in Apple’s Latest Refresh
Apple refreshes the MacBook Air with the new M5 chip, Wi-Fi 7 support, and 512GB base storage. Here’s what’s new, pricing details, and whether it’s worth the upgrade.

Apple has officially unveiled the latest MacBook Air, now powered by the all-new M5 chip. The refresh brings noticeable performance gains, faster wireless connectivity, and double the base storage, making the world’s most popular laptop even more compelling for students, professionals, and everyday users.
Faster Performance With M5
At the heart of the new MacBook Air is Apple’s next-generation Apple M5 chip.
The M5 features a faster CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, and enhanced machine learning acceleration. Apple claims significantly improved performance in AI-driven tasks compared to the previous generation, with major gains for users upgrading from M1-based models.
Everyday workflows such as photo editing, video trimming, spreadsheet management, and multitasking should feel noticeably quicker. The improved Neural Engine also boosts Apple Intelligence features across the system.
The new Air ships with macOS Tahoe, designed to take full advantage of on-device machine learning.
Now Starts With 512GB Storage
In a welcome move, Apple has doubled the base storage. The MacBook Air now starts at 512GB, addressing one of the most common complaints about earlier models.
Storage can be configured up to 4TB, making it suitable for heavier workflows like video editing and large media libraries.
Wi-Fi 7 and Improved Connectivity
The new model supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, thanks to Apple’s updated wireless architecture N1 chip. Users can expect faster speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability when connected to compatible routers.
The laptop also includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports and continues to support dual external displays, expanding its appeal for desk-based setups.
Design and Display Remain Familiar
Apple retains the thin, fanless aluminum design available in both 13-inch and 15-inch sizes. The Liquid Retina display continues to deliver sharp text, accurate colors, and strong brightness for both indoor and outdoor use.
Battery life is rated for up to 18 hours, maintaining the all-day endurance the Air lineup is known for.
The laptop also features a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View support, enhanced microphones, and a Spatial Audio-capable speaker system.
Pricing and Availability
The 13-inch MacBook Air with M5 starts at $1,099 in the US, while the 15-inch model starts at $1,299. In India, pricing begins at ₹1,19,900.
Pre-orders begin March 4, with availability starting March 11.
