Author’s take
Rockstar Games must be commended for flooding the Ultimate Edition with loads of extra content. It should be the definitive version to buy for longtime fans and series enthusiasts. On the other hand, the impressive lineup of pre-order bonuses ensures that those who grab the standard variant before launch also have an ample amount of additional content to be excited about, particularly the ’80s era cosmetics.
The one thing about GTA 6’s pre-orders that has been underwhelming for a section of fans is how Rockstar is treating the physical launch. The decision to go with code-only boxes has not sit well with some anticipating gamers, especially collectors.
However, keeping in mind the craze around the open-world shooter game, it partly seems like a precautionary move to avoid any last-minute story leaks. At the same time, whether or not this decision sets a precedent that spells doom for physical discs going ahead—as some fans fear—is something worth keeping an eye on.
