iPhone 18 Pro leaks suggest a smaller Dynamic Island with under-display Face ID shift

New leaks point to Apple reducing the size of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro by moving part of the Face ID system under the display. If accurate, this would directly reduce the visible cutout at the top of the screen.

The strongest signal comes from alignment across leaks. An alleged prototype image shows a smaller pill with a separate punch-hole for the front camera. More importantly, screen protector leaks shared by Ice Universe show reduced cutouts that match this change. Majin Bu claims the Dynamic Island could shrink by around 35 percent compared to the iPhone 17 Pro.

Multiple leaks from social media and supply chain accessories point to a smaller cutout

The current wave of leaks comes from a mix of social media leakers and supply chain signals.

An X account called “Early Apple Leaks” shared an alleged prototype image showing a smaller Dynamic Island with a separate punch-hole cutout. The account has no real track record, so the image on its own is weak evidence.

More credible signals come from known leakers. Ice Universe posted images of what are claimed to be iPhone 18 Pro screen protectors, showing significantly smaller cutouts. Accessory leaks like these usually reflect expectations from manufacturers preparing ahead of launch.

Majin Bu backed this up with a claim that the Dynamic Island could shrink by around 35 percent. He also pointed to changes in sensor placement, suggesting some Face ID components may move under the display.

There is still disagreement across sources, and none of this is confirmed. But the overlap between prototype images, accessory production, and multiple leakers pointing to the same change makes the direction clear.

Smaller Dynamic Island likely across iPhone 18 lineup with no major front redesign

The change may not be limited to Pro models. Ice Universe claims the smaller Dynamic Island could appear across the entire iPhone 18 lineup, while bezels stay the same as recent generations. That would make this a lineup-wide design update rather than a Pro-only feature.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18 Pro this fall, with the standard iPhone 18 arriving later as part of a split release cycle. If these leaks hold, the most visible change will be a smaller cutout that brings the iPhone closer to a full-screen design without a major redesign.
