If you’re on the lookout to protect your newly purchased iPhone 14 without adding significant bulk to it, the PITAKA MagEZ Case 3 might be a perfect choice. It is the world’s thinnest and lightest case for the iPhone 14 series.

PITAKA tries its best to implement style and protection, two aspects that barely go hand in hand. The case is crafted from aerospace-grade aramid fiber and offers decent protection. I got my hands on five of PITAKA’s MagEZ Case 3’s made for the iPhone 14 series, and here’s what I think about them.

Note: The cases have been tested with the iPhone 13, as the iPhone 14 is not out yet.

Unboxing: Biodegradable packaging

Unboxing

In my experience, premium products always offer a premium unboxing experience. But do you know what’s better than a premium unboxing experience? A product that comes in biodegradable packaging.

The PITAKA MagEZ Case 3 packaging is 100% biodegradable.

The build quality of the packaging box is solid to ensure your case doesn’t get damaged in transit. I love it when a brand takes genuine efforts to conserve the environment and doesn’t just use the environment as an excuse for poor packaging.

The packaging is minimal. It has an outer box sleeve that has details of the product. Then we have a reinforced paper box with the MagEZ Case 3, some paperwork, and PITAKA’s signature adjustment stickers that help improve the fit of the case if the need arises.

Build quality: Designed with aramid fiber

Build quality

The PITAKA MagEZ Case 3 is built out of aerospace-grade aramid fiber, which is 5 times stronger than steel. It might sound too good to be true, but the catch here is that it only applies on an equal-weight basis.

PITAKA claims that MagEZ Case 3 is the lightest because the 600D variant is just 0.95mm thin and weighs 17.3 grams, and the 1500D variant is 1.05mm thin and weighs 22.3g. The ‘D’ here stands for Denier, an indicator of the density of the aramid yarn. The 600D cases are thinner and lighter than the 1500D cases.

Putting on the case doesn’t add any bulk to the iPhone but rather makes it grippier and provides protection that a naked phone otherwise wouldn’t have. It fits the iPhone perfectly and has raised lips around the rear camera module to protect the camera from scratching when placed flat on a table.

While the case protects your iPhone, it is a fingerprint magnet. It gets smudgy after a short while of use, and I’ve observed this across a wide range of carbon/aramid fiber products.

Basic daily protection

Basic daily protection with Pitaka MagEZ Case 3 for iPhone 14 series

Since the MagEZ Case 3 is so thin and light, how much protection does it offer? PITAKA doesn’t want to falsely market its product and has clarified the target audience for the MagEZ Case 3 on the product page.

It is a great choice if you are just looking for basic daily protection, want a sleek case, and cut down on carrying additional bulk. To qualify for this means you already take good care of your iPhone and want to protect it from scratches, scuffs, and bumps.

But if you’re not careful with your devices and tend to drop them, this might not be the ideal case for you.

MagSafe compatible

MagSafe compatible Pitaka MagEZ Case 3 for iPhone 14 series

The PITAKA MagEZ Case 3 supports Wireless charging and is also MagSafe compatible. It is made possible by using PITAKA’s proprietary MagSafe SlimBoard technology. Yes, even I’m perplexed by the fact that PITAKA could fit in MagSafe magnets in a 0.95mm form factor!

The MagSafe SlimBoard technology on the MagEZ Case 3 has significant improvements over its predecessors, as it is 27% thinner and 35% lighter. Let me remind you, it is thinner than a credit card!

I’m sure you won’t trust me. I didn’t trust it was possible, either. To test this, I took the MagEZ Case 3 and attached it to a MagSafe charger. No iPhone was used in this test, and to my surprise, the case stuck to the MagSafe charger. It is an excellent integration, indeed.

Should you get the PITAKA MagEZ Case 3?

While most buying decisions are always subjective to one’s needs, there is no definite answer, and they differ from user to user. The PITAKA MagEZ Case 3 case is the ideal choice for users who take good care of their iPhones.

If you’re someone who drops their devices often, you’re better off with a bumper case or something that offers more protection. Also, the case has cutouts from the top, bottom, and sides, exposing the device to weathering, etc.

All MagSafe compatible accessories also go well with the MagEZ Case 3. So, if you already own and use the MagSafe Wallet, MagSafe Battery Pack, or any other third-party MagSafe accessories, you won’t have to worry about compatibility. At a price tag of $59.99, the PITAKA MagEZ Case 3 is not very cheap but acceptable since aramid/carbon fiber accessories have been expensive for as long as I can remember.
