Foldable iPhone Could Launch at $2,399, Says Analyst

Apple’s foldable iPhone may start at $2,399 due to its premium display and hinge design. Despite the price, analysts expect strong demand in 2026.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone might cost as much as $2,399, according to Fubon Research analyst Arthur Liao. That price puts it near the top of previous estimates, which have ranged from $1,800 to $2,500.

Why the Foldable iPhone May Be So Expensive

Liao believes the high price comes down to premium components, particularly the display and hinge mechanism. These parts are more complex and costlier than regular iPhone components, which may explain the steep pricing. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had also predicted a $2,000 to $2,500 range, while Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expects a starting price close to $2,000.

The $2,399 estimate would make Apple’s foldable one of the most expensive smartphones on the market, even pricier than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, which starts at $1,799.

Sales Expectations for 2026

Despite the high price, Fubon expects Apple to sell about 5.4 million units in 2026. That year, global smartphone demand is forecasted to decline, but foldables may stand out as the one segment still growing. The foldable iPhone is expected to be one of the few spotlight devices that year.

The report also mentions camera details. While the iPhone Fold likely won’t get the variable aperture lens Apple is planning for the iPhone 18 Pro, it is expected to include a dual rear camera setup with Wide and Ultra Wide lenses. Two front cameras are also rumored.

A previous report from JP Morgan also hinted at a 24MP under-display camera and a book-style foldable design, but this wasn’t mentioned in Fubon’s analysis.

What’s Next

Apple is also working on camera upgrades for the iPhone 18 Pro, expected to arrive alongside the foldable in fall 2026. These upgrades include Apple’s first variable aperture lens, aimed at improving photo performance in different lighting conditions.
