With every new product launched by Apple, the tech giant adds a fitting tag line that describes product qualities. Keeping this tradition, Apple quietly introduced its AirPods 2 and the punchline on Apple website reads, “More magical than ever.”
This punchline reveals that Apple is comparing the second-generation AirPods with its previous edition. Before the launch of these magical earbuds, there were rumors galore about the AirPods 2019. Although Apple never makes an official statement before the product release, these rumors set some expectations in the minds of consumers.
New Apple AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case and H1 Chip: What Else?
In its second-generation AirPods, Apple has strengthened the battery life of the pods. The notable feature this time is a wireless charging case. To add this to its current Pods, Apple took nearly two years.
Wireless charging is a feature that has witnessed sporadic popularity in the world as it requires an extra accessory to charge the device. Consumers have to pick up a wireless charging pad to charge the new AirPods.
Since Apple has failed to deliver AirPower, users will explore third-party Q1 charging pads to charge AirPods 2 wirelessly.
Another feature Apple touts is H1 chip, which the company claims to offer stronger battery life and ‘Hey Siri’ support to activate the personal assistant without pressing the pod.
Apple boasts about its H1 chip as this can beat its first-generation W1 chip in many ways. In the 2019 AirPods, users can experience a seamless transition between devices while listening to music on the iPhone, Apple Watch or iPad. The new chip delivers 50% more talk time compared to first-gen AirPods.
With H1 chip, Apple has introduced Hands-free ‘Hey Siri’ and faster connectivity. But again, these are not saleable features of the earbuds.
The new AirPods with wireless charging case are available at $199. If you want to buy only the wireless charging case, it is available at $79. Apple has not discontinued its first-generation AirPods as they are available at $159. To my mind, this will encourage existing users to buy the wireless charging case only.
The updated AirPods may fail to capture the fancy of consumers. Perhaps, Apple had got this hint before it silently launched the pods, and therefore, there is little fanfare about the second-generation AirPods. Every Apple lover would have this question in their mind: Where is the magic in AirPods 2?
