A good many iPhone users are reporting on Apple Support that Weather widget is not working on iOS 11 or later. As per reports, the widget doesn’t update at all.
So, what could be the problem behind this mess? Though I haven’t encountered this issue on the latest version of iOS, I had run into it a long way back on the previous versions of iOS. Hence, I remember the tricks that fixed the Weather widget issue on my iPhone. Given them a try!
Weather Widget Not Working on iPhone or iPad in iOS 11
Solution #1: Start from the Scratch
Before trying out some radical solutions, let’s start from the scratch to ensure you don’t need to dig deeper.
Step #1. Swipe right from the left of the screen to go to Lock screen.
Step #2. Now, you need to scroll down all the way to the bottom and tap on Edit.
To hard reset your iPhone 7/7 Plus, press and hold the volume down button and ON/OFF button at once.
Once your device has restarted, head over to the Lock screen to check out if the Weather widget has started working or not.
Solution #2: Allow Weather App to Always Access Your Location
When you allow the Weather app to always access your location, local weather will always be kept updated. But if you select While using the app, it is updated only when you open the app. So, make sure to select Always.
Step #1. Open Settings app → Privacy.
Let Weather app refresh its data in the background. It might help the app run smoothly. Open Settings app → General → Make sure Background App Refresh toggle is on and then turn on the switch next to Weather app. Then reboot your device. Once your iPhone has restarted, check out if the widget is not working or not.
Solution #4: Reset Location and Privacy
Still facing the problem? Try resetting location and privacy.
Step #1. Tap on Settings → General
I’m sure the tricks as mentioned above would get the job done for you. However, I can’t discount the possibility of them not working. If that is the case, it’s time to take a hard decision, and that is to reset your device to factory default.
When you reset your iOS device to factory settings, all of your website logins and Wi-Fi passwords would be removed. But your data and media will remain safe.
Step #1. Open Settings app on your iOS device → General
Step #2. Tap on Reset.
Step #3. Tap on Reset All Settings and confirm.
If you are yet to overcome the issue, it’s time to delete the app and reinstall it. Simply touch and hold on the app and when it starts wiggling, tap on the “X” button. Then confirm.
Solution #7: Update iOS on your Device
Haven’t got the solution as yet? Update your device to the latest iOS version.
Many a time, I’m able to troubleshoot some miscellaneous issues just by updating the device. Hence, I’d recommend you to keep your device updated. It will not only make your device more secure but also help it to run smoothly. Open Settings app → General → Software Update and install the latest iOS version.
