Spotify Premium Subscribers Number Grow to 100 Million

In its official announcement, Spotify mentioned that its premium subscribers grew to 100 million, which is a 32% year-on-year hike. This is an important milestone in the history of the leading music streaming service provider.

After the lackluster announcement of Apple News+ and TV+ services in the March event, Apple receives another blow – this time from Spotify. In its official statement, Spotify claims that its premium subscribers grew to 100 million.

In its official release, Spotify says, “Results for Q1 2019 were largely positive with most metrics outperforming our expectations and landing at the high end of, or exceeding, our Q1 guidance.”

Notably, the total number of users include 2 million subscribers from India, where Spotify launched its service in February this year. Following this, Apple had to slash its music subscription prices in India.

For its success in North America and Europe, Spotify gives credit to its expansion plans. The global market footprint of Spotify now reaches to 79 countries.

The promotion plans in the US and Canada yielded fruitful results and continued strong growth in Family Plan. Spotify reduced its prices in its Spotify Premium + Hulu offerings in the United States.

Apart from its price slash strategy, Google Home Mini promotion got a warm reception in the new markets viz. the UK and France. According to this deal, new and existing Family Plan master account holders can claim a free Google Home Mini smart speaker.

In the release, Spotify believes, “Voice speakers are a critical area of growth, particularly for music and podcasts, and we intend to continue to pursue opportunities to expand our presence in that area.”

Spotify’s aggressive promotional tactics include an ongoing partnership with Samsung. As per this partnership, Spotify app will be preloaded on millions of new devices globally.

New users of Samsung Galaxy S10 with preloaded Spotify will enjoy a free six-month trial of Spotify Premium in the United States.
