Sluggish Sales Relegate Apple to Lower Position: Fast Company

In the middle of censure for lack of innovation and decline in iPhone sales, Fast Company writes a rave review for Apple's A12 Bionic chip. However, the publication released a list of the world's 50 most innovative companies, and Apple stands at the seventeenth position.

Apple is relegated to the seventeenth position in the list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies, 2019. As per the list published by Fast Company, Apple lost its number one position.

Speaking about the reasons for this downfall, Fast Company senior editor Amy Farley told CNBC, “They didn’t really break new ground with their devices, and hardware sales were sluggish.”

Lack of Ground-Breaking Products Push Apple to 17th Position

Even as Apple has received criticism from all quarters, Fast Company gives the tech company some appreciation for A12 bionic chip.

Fast Company writes:

“Apple’s most impressive new product of 2018 wasn’t a phone or a tablet, but a chip: the A12 Bionic. Debuting in last fall’s iPhones, it’s the industry’s first processor based on a seven-nanometer manufacturing process. The A12’s 6.9 billion transistors deliver dramatically faster performance, lower power consumption, and more raw muscle for intensive applications such as AI, AR, and high-end photography. At a time when it remains tougher than ever to induce consumers to upgrade, as proven by Apple’s surprise January move to cut revenue guidance on sluggish iPhone sales, the innovative chip design positions the company to create a whole new generation of irresistible experiences.”

Should Apple be worried about this fall? The A12 Bionic chip is dazzling, and therefore, industry insiders do not ring an alarm based on this decline in the rankings.

The rankings given by Fast Company are not based on Apple’s financial performance. The publication has considered Apple’s subjective impact on “industry and culture.” One must not forget that Apple became the first $1 trillion company in 2018.

Though Apple launched some great products last year, the company failed to hold the torch for a revolution. Analysts extolled iPhone X as it changed the way people used to think about form factor. ARKit is also a shining feather in Apple’s cap.

The top five innovative companies Fast Company included are Chinese app maker Meituan Dianping, Singapore’s Grab, the NBA, Walt Disney Company, and apparel e-commerce retailer Stitch Fix.

For Apple, the year ahead is full of activities, and a positive attitude as the tech giant is going to launch its video streaming services. Moreover, Apple is likely to introduce AirPods 2 with advanced health features.
