Apple Likely to Ditch 3D Touch in 2019 iPhones

Analysts from Barclays have confirmed that Apple is expected to remove the 3D Touch feature in its 2019 iPhones. In the absence of 3D Touch, Apple will undoubtedly improve its Haptic Touch technology.

When Apple first launched the 3D Touch feature in its iPhone 6s, it was no less than a feat for the company. iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were the most popular devices after the iPhone 6. But now the company is planning to eliminate its 3D Touch feature from 2019 iPhones.

It has been four years since iPhone owners using the pressure-sensitive feature. And now, according to a research note from Barclays analysts (shared with MacRumors), it is confirmed that 3D Touch “will be eliminated” from all 2019 iPhones. Interestingly, Barclays analysts predicted this back in August 2018.

Barclays Analysts Claim: 3D Touch Will be Eliminated From All 2019 iPhones

Notably, Barclays experts have collected this information from Apple suppliers during a trip to Asia earlier May 2019.

Apart from Barclays analysts, The Wall Street Journal had also predicted this in January. Thus, the prediction seems to be a rumor.

Owners of iPhone XR must have experienced Haptic Touch as 3D Touch has already been replaced on this low-cost device.

Haptic Touch takes a toll on 3D Touch to provide users an edge-to-edge LCD on the device. Analysts believe this feature will be available on all 2019 iPhones. Haptic Touch is a long press and vibration.

If you ask the reason why Apple wants to discard 3D Touch from future iPhones, there is no clue. Apple can successfully include this feature into edge-to-edge OLED displays without any problem.

When you compare Haptic Touch on your iPhone XR with 3D Touch, you can see that the former works in fewer places than 3D Touch. This includes flashlight and camera shortcuts on your iOS lock screen, in Control Center to check hidden toggles, and to expand notifications.

Haptic Touch has a limitation in Quick Actions app menus or Peek and Pop for previewing content.

Wrapping up…

iPhone loyalists will surely take note of the absence of 3D Touch on future devices. The Quick Actions menu is one of the most used features on 3D Touch-enabled devices. However, Apple believes that 3D Touch has always remained a blue-eyed boy of pro users.
