Text overlaid on image is not new to iPhone. A lot of Instagram-inspired apps allow you to do that.
New in that line of apps is PXTURE which works like a charm and is a truly beautiful app to spice up, creatively, the photos you click on your iPhone. PXTURE takes cue from an age-old technique: add text over pictures in a way that the picture shows through the text (masking).
So what about PXTURE makes it gain such attention especially when there are a lot of other apps that do the same thing?
For starters: it’s new and exciting. It’s a wonderfully-crafted app that seems to know what it means to have beautiful colors and typography overlaid on beautiful pictures. And it does all that with a beautiful interface that takes its cue from a really flat design.
Using PXTURE is very easy. You pick a photo or click a picture, add some text and select a good font for it, use gestures to make the font bigger, change the orientation and then pick a color for the mask – you can edit the transparency too. Finally, when you are satisfied with your creation, you hit the share button and up pop a variety of options.
In design circles, the ease of an interface is often linked to the necessity to eliminate as much as the interface as possible. Almost all the photo editing apps I’ve used/seen aren’t big deal when it comes to simplifying the interface. Even in the midst of a simple-looking interface, there are certain misgivings that can be a blot on the app’s usability.
I will not venture so far out to say that PXTURE is perfect in every way but perhaps, the absence of many features leads to a very refined usability that doesn’t come in the way of your creativity.
Now that the season’s changing, with PXTURE, you can make your photos even more spectacular and terrific-looking. What more? You can share them straight to your Facebook or Twitter profiles, send them to a friend and keep them with you forever. All for free.
PXTURE does come with some In-app purchases of different mask styles (each 99c). The app itself is free.
