Apple’s 2020 iPhones with 5G Modems to Bring More Sales: JP Morgan Predicts

OLED displays and 5G modems of 2020 iPhones can bring sales growth for Apple, predicts JP Morgan. According to the analysts of the research firm, Apple may release four iPhones in 2020.

After the disappointing predictions of iPhone sales by Rosenblatt Securities, here is something positive for the Cupertino-based tech giant. And this time it is JP Morgan, which foresees four new iPhone models Apple may launch in 2020.

According to Samik Chatterjee, an analyst at the research firm, “Our positive volume outlook for 2020 is driven by our current expectation for the launch of four iPhone models…and more significant spec upgrades.

Apple Plans to Release Four iPhone Models in 2020

The analyst believes that four devices are likely to ‘ignite’ growth in Apple’s flagship devices.

Apple is known for breaking traditions; since 2017, the company has released three devices instead of two, which was the practice earlier.

Now, for the first time, Apple is likely to release four devices. Usually, Apple launches its flagship devices in September, which is a holiday season. Following this month, people indulge themselves in a shopping spree, which is beneficial to Apple.

Once the holiday season is over, Apple witnesses slower sales of its smartphones. Apart from holiday sales, Apple gets benefits of a number of upgrades; the global economic climate also plays a pivotal role in iPhone sales.

New features always bring more sales of iPhones for Apple. As per Chatterjee:

Apple may reap the benefits of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, high-speed modems, and virtual reality features in its 2020 iPhones.

“Our expectations include all three Sep-2020 iPhones (5.4″/6.1″/6.7″ screen sizes) will adopt OLED displays and 5G baseband modems (with support for mmWave frequencies), and at least two of the three models adopting world facing 3D Sensing (Time of Flight) driving industry-leading AR/VR capabilities which can be leveraged by custom-built applications (including games).”

Apple has some hopes from its devices equipped with 5G networks, which can dramatically increase cellular download speed. However, the device alone cannot do any miracle unless the carriers develop the technology.

The 3D sensing cameras, which are available in current devices, will be there on 2020 Apple iPhones, predict analysts at JP Morgan.

About the sales of iPhones, the research firm predicts, “Apple will sell 195 million iPhones in 2020, up from an estimated 180 million in 2019.” This will undoubtedly affect Apple’s stock price positively; Chatterjee increased JP Morgan’s year-end price target from $233 to $239.

Chatterjee also forecasts that Apple is “going after a much more ‘value’ category than it has been used to with its recent launches.” This means Apple may launch a lower-cost iPhone in 2020 without 5G modem and OLED display. The size of this device can be similar to that of iPhone 8.
