iPad Pro 9.7″ Features, Price and Release Date: Smaller iPad with Big Benefits

Finally, Apple has looped us in. This time the Cupertino-based tech giant surprises its fans with an iPad Pro. But hold it! This one is 9.7-inch in size. It seems that 12.9-inch iPad Pro is too large for people to carry along. And therefore, Apple has come up with a solution, albeit with the same name. The naming conventions for the iPad family could really use some simplifying like Mini, Air, Pro, Pro et al.

Phil Schiller started off with a humour note, “Customers have fallen in love with the iPad Pro”. This iPad Pro 9.7-inch is second in the iPad Pro family. About the size of this latest iPad, it is still the most popular size of the iPad as Apple has sold more than 200 million pieces at that size.

Schiller also pointed out that there were more than 600 million PCs in use that are over 5 years old. About the apps, there are more than one million iPad apps now. Schiller is hopeful that customers will replace their old PCs with this new 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

iPad Pro 9.7″ Display

About the display technology, Apple has introduced Oxide TFT (3D Touch is not included), which is 40% less reflective and 25% brighter than iPad Air 2. By the way, this 9.7-inch iPad Pro looks exactly like iPad Air 2. Users will enjoy more colors and better color saturation with this small iPad Pro. A breakthrough technology is that it supports Night Shift mode.

Another important feature is True Tone display (missing in iPad Pro 12.9 inch), which measures the color temperature to the surrounding light and adjusts the screen to match.

iPad Pro 9.7″ Processor

The small iPad Pro has four speakers and A9X processor; the iPad supports Hey Siri. It also has custom-sized Smart Keyboard. Good news is that this smaller iPad Pro supports Apple Pencil, although customers have to be prepared to shell out another $100 for Pencil.
