Leaked Image of Case for Redesigned iPad Pro Indicates Relocation of Smart Connector

Apple is likely to introduce some revolutionary changes in its future iPad Pro models. From the leaked images of case for future iPad Pro, it is speculated that Apple may relocate its Smart Connector.

In a leak from Slashleaks, the image of case for redesigned iPad Pro indicates relocation of a smart connector. A mysterious cutout above the lightning connector has raised many questions as to why Apple is coming up with this new design.

An analyst (whose predictions everybody believes) says that Apple’s engineers are working on two iPad Pro models measuring 11 and 12.9-inches.

Redesigned iPad Pro Indicates Relocation of Smart Connector

Notably, Macotakara reported earlier in July suggesting that Apple has plans to relocate Smart Connector on its future redesigned iPad Pro models from the side to the bottom near lightning connector.

After Macotakara, a Boastful Leaker shared a CAD image on his Twitter account, showing “an unknown thing located on the back of the tablet.”

Both leaks show the same cutout, but there is dissimilarity between today’s leak and the CAD image shared by the mobile leaker. Today’s leak shows a horizontal cutout, which looks like the cutout available in a current lot of iPad Pro models, however, the location is changed.

This new location of connector would need a new vertically oriented Smart Keyboard. But a keyboard in that orientation would probably be unstable.

According to Macotakara, Apple is coming up with this change, as Face ID will work only when your iPad Pro is in a vertical orientation.

However, earlier Macotakara suggested that Apple was working on horizontal Face ID in its iOS 12 for the new iPad Pro models. Moreover, the Japanese media also mentioned that Apple is expected to incorporate the TrueDepth Camera system in the new iPad Pro models.

A Bloomberg reporter commented on the reports of Macotakara, saying that horizontal Face ID support is designed for the future iPad Pro models, which Apple may announce in September.

If the comment of Bloomberg reporter is to be believed, the question arises: Is the pill-shaped hollow (as seen in the leaked image of the case) for something other than a new Smart Connector?

There are many speculations about this new pill-shaped hollow. It can be a magnetic alignment for another type of keyboard or accessory; it can be a wireless charging contact? Or a USB-C? The most unlikely speculation is the relocation of Touch ID to support horizontal Face ID.

Summing up…

There are as many opinions as heads. The leaks and rumors always excite our psyche to know more about the future Apple products.
