Apple announced the iPad Mini yesterday, as expected. While the entire world is abuzz with ideas, opinions and thoughts on the smaller version of iPad, let’s go through all that makes the iPad Mini a really special device.

Call it whatever: Kindle Fire-killer, Nexus-killer, Nook-killer.. it seems strange that a tablet that is a bit larger than all these tablets, and priced much more than what was even expected could actually beat these “competitors” but if past experiences are to go by, we think the iPad Mini will definitely smoke a few of its competitors in the coming months.

The timing of the release couldn’t be smarter. It’s the holiday season in a few weeks’ time with Thanksgiving and Black Friday around the corner. By shipping iPad Mini now, Apple has literally sealed these days for itself.

The iPad Mini is all that it was rumored to be. Excellent design as usual, with a 7.9″ resolution that would still fit in your hand, with several enhancements in the FaceTime iSight camera, and of course the changes in the connectors.

iPad Mini Features

The iPad Mini arrives with some really good features on the spec sheet. Although the market has long rumored about these, seeing them live as Apple released the device is something that makes everyone’s heart skip a beat.

  • 7.9″ Multitouch LCD
  • WiFi and LTE Cellular models
  • Storage in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB
  • A5 Dual Core Processor
  • FaceTime 1.2 MP HD Camera
  • iSight 5 MP camera
  • 10 hours of usage time (WiFi)
  • 9 hours on Cellular
  • 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Lightning connector
  • Siri
  • AirPlay

These are just some of the top features that would make the iPad Mini experience something stunning.

The device is actually thinner than the iPad by about 7.2mm – which makes it the “thinnest” tablet of its type. Apple has this fetish about making things thinner so this was expected. Also, you will find that the bezel is smaller on the sides but not to an extent where it becomes uncomfortable to hold. Apple seems to have nailed the right proportion to make it friendly as well as thin.

Of course, there’s the smartcover too with multiple color options and Apple’s legendary design.

The iPad Mini runs on iOS 6 but the most interesting thing is you get Siri with it. Now Siri could be a strong selling point for iPad Mini but then, Apple must have added Siri to the equation owing to its popularity and versatility now.

Apple says all the apps designed for the iPad will run smoothly on the iPad Mini too. With the powerful A5 processor (the same that runs iPhone 4S), you should be able to have high-intensity graphics run smoothly. Watching HD videos is supposedly as painless and smooth as that in the iPads.

iPad Mini Price

This is where it gets tricky. All rumors had pointed earlier to a $249-$299 price range (which was anyway $100 more than the usual 7” tablet market price range).

But the iPad Mini price has been set to be $329. This is the starting price for a 16GB iPad Mini WiFi.

Here are the other prices:

Price of iPad Mini WiFi Models

  • 16GB – $329
  • 32GB – $429
  • 64GB – $529

Price of iPad Mini WiFi+Cellular Models

  • 16GB – $459
  • 32GB – $559
  • 64GB – $659
