The big surprise was iPad Mini but there was an even bigger surprise at the conference. Something that very few people actually hinted at – a newer iPad built on the 3rd-gen iPad – was released along with the iPad Mini.
The iPad 4 – or as Apple calls it, iPad with Retina Display – is out and ready for pre-orders starting tomorrow. It will be available from the shops on November 2nd in countries like US, UK, Australia, Canada and more.
The iPad 4 has pretty much the same features that the new iPad (iPad 3rd-gen) had except for a few additions and replacements that go a long way.
With the launch of iPad with Retina Display (4th gen), Apple has retired iPad 3rd-gen and it is no longer available. Apple has made some strategic changes to the old device which was only released this March and made some considerable improvements to a device that’s already far ahead of its time.
1. A6X Processor
The A6 processor came out with iPhone 5 and Apple has been quick to release another iternation: A6X. Just like A5X powered the iPad 3, the iPad 4 is powered by an A6X processor that’s thinner but faster and more powerful, according to Apple. Early reports state that the processor is twice as fast as the old ones.
2. Emphasis on Retina
The emphasis on Retina is all the more prominent this time around. There aren’t any discernible changes but Apple sure is counting on the Retina Display a lot. The new “iPad with Retina Display” is all about how brilliant the imagery is, on the display.
3. Faster WiFi + Better LTE
Apple has now fixed the LTE support issue so the new iPad will run LTE in UK too. With increasing support for LTE from AT&T, Verizon and even Sprint, US customers are going to be quite happy with the enhanced performance.
Along with that, Apple has also increased the Wi-Fi support to reach levels of 100Mbps. The iPad 4th gen promises faster Wi-Fi than ever before, following the footsteps of iPhone 5.
4. Lightning Dock
Of course, this change was inevitable. The iPad 4th gen now comes with a lightning dock which will make it easier to handle thanks to the smaller connectors and dock size. The Lightning dock is not only smaller but also supports faster communication and file transfer, that matches USB 3.0 or more.
5. Same Price
