What if you wanted to control your Mac/Windows PC using your iPhone/iPad?
I’m sure you’ve heard of a few apps that convert your iPhone/iPad into a remote mouse for your PC/Mac but I’d say that nothing works as good as Remote Mouse – the super sleek iPhone app (works on iPad too) that converts your iPhone’s touchscreen display into a touchpad for the PC/Mac. And of course, a keyboard when you want it to act like one.
Remote Mouse iPhone app comes in two versions: a free one that serves ads (not so annoying anyway) and a $1.99 version that comes with no ads.
The app connects to your Mac/PC via Wireless (Wifi or 3G) which means you can control it beyond the usual limitations of Bluetooth. This is particularly important because the Bluetooth-apps are only so much powerful.
Setting up Remote Mouse is easy.
How to Use Remote Mouse app to turn your iPhone into mouse
- Download the app on your iPhone
- Download the Mac/PC version of the software
- Run the software on Mac/PC
- Now, open Remote Mouse on your iPhone
- Tap on ‘Start’ and it should automatically connect if your iPhone and the Mac/PC are on the same Wi-fi network
- That’s it! If it doesn’t connect automatically, you can enter the IP address of your PC/Mac manually too by tapping on the small IP search icon.
The smartness of the app helps in simplifying the connectivity. There’s actually no delay here: the app searches and locks onto the IP address and that’s it. You can now use the app as a mouse/keyboard.
The display serves as the touchpad for your Mac/PC. A two-finger tap is taken as a right-click and a swipe is taken as a scroll. But of course, there are buttons on the screen too so you can use them to emulate clicks.
The app flies because it’s really dead simple to connect the iPhone app to the desktop. The auto-search function works just fine and just in case it doesn’t work right off the start, you can enter the IP address manually.
The really cool thing is that the app works on internet data. This means you can control the Mac/PC from your bedroom. Or any other area which a normal Bluetooth connectivity wouldn’t work in. And with a ton of other customization available, Remote Mouse app is the favorite remote touchpad/keyboard app we’ve used.
That’s all, folks!
