How to Sort Contacts by First Name on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

By default, the contacts are sorted by the last name. However, you have the option to change the sort order in the Contacts app not only on Mac but also on iPhone and iPad.

There are multiple ways to manage contacts and keep them in the right sync. The one little trick that I’ve been using for long is customizing the pecking order. Personally; I like to sort my contacts by the first name as it helps me find them a tad easier.

By default, the contacts are segregated by the last name. However, it’s quite simple to change the order and sort them by the first name both on iOS and macOS device. Find out how it’s done the quick way!

Sort iPhone Contacts By First Name

Step #1. Launch Settings app on your iOS device and tap on Contacts.

Step #2. Now, tap on Sort Order.

Step #3. Now, you have two options:

  • First, Last
  • Last, First

We are going to sort the contacts by the first name. So, choose First, Last.
