There are multiple ways to manage contacts and keep them in the right sync. The one little trick that I’ve been using for long is customizing the pecking order. Personally; I like to sort my contacts by the first name as it helps me find them a tad easier.
By default, the contacts are segregated by the last name. However, it’s quite simple to change the order and sort them by the first name both on iOS and macOS device. Find out how it’s done the quick way!

Sort iPhone Contacts By First Name
Step #1. Launch Settings app on your iOS device and tap on Contacts.
Step #2. Now, tap on Sort Order.
Step #3. Now, you have two options:
- First, Last
- Last, First
We are going to sort the contacts by the first name. So, choose First, Last.
Now, head over to your Contacts app to check out the sort order. The first name will be highlighted.

Step #1. Open Contacts app on your Mac.
Step #2. Now, click on the Contacts menu and choose Preferences.
Step #3. Next, click on Sort By drop-down menu and choose the First Name.
The change will come into effect instantly. You can open the Contacts to see the new format.
If you have tons of contacts in your address book, managing them manually could be a tedious task.
