How to Setup Handoff on Mac OS X El Capitan and iOS 9 on iPhone/iPad

By setting up Handoff on iPhone/iPad and Mac, you can easily continue your tasks from any screen. But all your devices should be in close vicinity and running on the same Wi-fi network.

Handoff is an amazing feature that allows an Apple aficionado to change the screens of his devices without changing the content he is working on. As an avid fan of Apple, you must be the owner of iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and last but not the least – Apple Watch.

Thankfully, Apple has included its smartwatch in this Handoff family. If you are a new member in the Apple’s eco-system, Handoff is a feature that allows you to start something on one device and pick it up on another device without losing track of what you are doing. For example, if you are typing an email on your Mac, you can continue typing the same email by launching the Mail app on your iOS device. Or probably you are using Maps on your Apple Watch, which offers smaller screen area; so you can continue watching similar app, i.e. Maps, on a bigger screen of Mac.

Handoff supports many apps on your iOS and OS X El Capitan; it includes Calendar, Contacts, Keynote, Mail, Maps, Messages, Notes, Numbers, Pages, Reminders, and Safari. Note that Handoff also supports some third-party apps.

iCloud is your one-stop, where all devices converge; therefore, you have to use supported devices that are signed into iCloud with same Apple ID and same Wi-fi network also. Ensure that all your iCloud connected devices must be within Bluetooth range; the ideal range is 10 metres or 33 feet. Before you start using Handoff, make sure Bluetooth is on for your Mac and iOS devices.
