At times, I like listening to some of my favorite podcasts or audiobooks. Unfortunately, watchOS doesn’t have an official way of playing podcasts or audiobooks. But there is a workaround to get over the line.
First and foremost, you need to have Mac and DRM-free content. To begin with, you need to create file types the Apple Watch recognizes, and then make the playlist with those files. Eventually, you will have to add the playlist to your Apple Watch. Head over to get started!
How to Play Podcasts or Audiobooks on Apple Watch
Note: This tip won’t work for the Audible content, which is DRM-protected, inside the Music app on your Apple Watch.
Step #1. First off, you need to change the file type of your podcast or audiobook. To do so, launch iTunes on your Mac or PC.
Step #2. Now, you have to locate the podcast or audiobook files you want to add to your Apple Watch.
Step #3. Next, click on the podcast files to select them and then you have to use the keyboard to press Command-I. Now, your track’s information screen will appear. Next, click on the Options tab.
Change the media kind from Podcast (or Audiobook) to Music.
Next up, click OK. Now, let your “music” tracks upload to iCloud Music Library.
Step #4. Up next, you have to collect your podcasts into a single playlist. You have the option to create a smart playlist or a manual playlist.
In iTunes, click on File menu and select either New Playlist or New Smart Playlist.
Note: Alternately, you can also press Command+N or Command+Option+N. If you are creating Smart Playlist, make sure to change the rule to Genre contains Podcast.
If you wish to create a regular Playlist, simply drag the Podcast or Audiobook files you have converted from your library to the playlist window. Now, click on Done.
Step #5. Next, you have to Add your playlist to the Apple Watch On your iPhone, launch the Watch app and tap on My Watch tab → Tap on Music.
Step #6. Select Add Music at the bottom of the screen.
Then, you need to tap the playlist you have created.
Once your playlist has uploaded to your Apple Watch, your files are available to play on the watch.
