Unless you’re purchasing stuff on Cydia, you’re mostly not required to sign in with your Google or Facebook credentials. However, if you do intend to purchase or demo something (for instance, some developer agrees to send you a preview copy), you’ll need to sign up using your Google or Facebook account.
This helps Cydia keep a track of all the apps that you’ve purchased.
We’ll take a look at the signup process and also at how you can find your Cydia ID – a unique account number that will be helpful in case you’re getting some preview copies of tweaks.
You can use either your Google account or your Facebook account to authenticate your account on Cydia. Note that this is just to keep track of your purchases and they’re not going to be used to make purchases. Paypal and Amazon fill that purpose.
If you’ve never signed up, here’s what you might have to do:
- Open Cydia
- Tap on Manage Account
- Choose your mode of sign-up. Facebook / Google.
- Enter your login details and tap next/done
- If Google, choose your account (tap on the account displayed.)
- Once you’re signed up, Cydia will show you this screen:
Now that you’re logged in, finding the ID is easy.
- Once again, tap on Manage Account from Cydia’s home page.
- Now, you’re shown a screen like this:
At the bottom, you’ve got a number. That’s your Cydia Account number.
Like I said, Cydia ID can be helpful.
Tweak developers run contests and I see a lot of developers actually giving away their tweaks for promotion. In these cases, the user who wins needs to give his Cydia ID in order to get the tweak and download it. The tweak gets listed under your account under Installed Purchases.
Hope you found this useful.
