For more convenience, I prefer using captions in the videos. If you also belong to the same territory, you would appreciate this quick guide about enabling captions or subtitles in Facebook videos on your iPhone, iPad, Android, and computer.

You get multiple options to customize the captions display for Facebook videos on the desktop. For instance, you can configure background color, text size, and even background opacity.

How to Enable Captions in Facebook Videos on iPhone and iPad

On your iOS device, you need to adjust your device settings to show captions on Facebook.

Step #1. Open Settings app on your iOS device → Tap on General.

Step #2. Now, tap on Accessibility → Tap on Subtitles & Captioning.

Step #3. Next, turn on the switch next to Closed Captions + SDH.

Henceforth, you will get captions in your videos. Keep in mind that some videos may not have captions.

Turn ON Subtitles in Facebook Videos on Android

Facebook for Android allows you to get subtitles right from within the app.

Step #1. Open Facebook on your device.

Step #2. Now, tap on the Menu button → Scroll down and tap on Settings and Privacy → Tap on App Settings.

Step #3. Next up, tap on Subtitle Settings.

Now, you have two options:

  • Always Show Subtitles
  • Only Show Subtitles When Sound is Off

You can select any of the two options.

From now onwards, you will get subtitles in your Facebook videos, only if they are available.

If you ever wish to change your mind and don’t want to have them simply return to App Settings and turn off the switch in the end.

Enable Captions in Facebook Videos on Computer

Step #1. Open any web browser on your computer and head over to facebook.com.

Step #2. Now, click on the menu button at the top right corner.

Step #3. Next, click on Settings.

Step #5. Up next, you need to click on the drop-down button next to Always Show Captions and select ON.

You also have the option to adjust Captions Display. To do so, click on Edit and then configure the options as desired.

You can customize the background color, background opacity, text color and text size of the captions. In the end, make sure to click on Save Changes to confirm.

Going forward, you will get captions (if they are available) in Facebook Videos on your desktop.

You can easily disallow captions if you don’t want to use them anymore. To do so, follow the same steps mentioned above and then select Off next to Always Show Captions.
