Your iPhone and iPad can serve as a handy tool to edit and produce videos. Two of the essential video editing functions are cropping and trimming clips. While there are many third-party apps you can get for this, even the default Photos app in iOS 13 and 14 is adequate. So, whether it’s for social media, personal use, or something else, here’s how to crop and trim video on iPhone or iPad.

How to Crop a Video in the Photos App on iPhone and iPad
Step #1. Open the Photos app on your iPhone
Step #2. Scroll down to the Videos section or select any Album.
Step #3. Select a video you want to crop and tap on Edit from the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step #4. Tap on the Crop icon from the bottom-right of the screen.
Step #5. In the Edit window, adjust the frame by pulling in or out, any edge of the video.
Note: Don’t get confused with the rotating options present in the window. Check out this link for a detailed tutorial on how to rotate a video on an iPhone or iPad.
Step #6. For a more precise crop, tap on Aspect Ratio button from the upper-right corner of the screen and then tap on Original tab to change the orientation from landscape to portrait or vice-a-versa.
Step #7. Continue Freeform cropping or choose the Presets from the options. Tap on Video and drag it to reframe, if required.
Note: You can slide the timeline to check the cropping throughout the video.
Step #8. Tap on Reset from the top of the screen to undo the action.
Step #9. Once satisfied, tap on Done to save the video.
Preview the video once saved, repeat the process from step #3, if any change is required. Feel free to share this video with everyone; however, if you feel it is too big to share, you can either reduce its size or simply trim it.

Step #1. Open the Photos → Album → Select Video → Edit.
Step #2. Tap on Revert from the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Step #3. Confirm the action, by taping on Revert to Original.

Crop. Trim. Repeat !!!
At least for a while now, this is going to be my new mantra, though you might add revert here and there. After all, practice makes a man/woman/kid perfect; or shall I say, practice and experience is the difference between a novice and a professional.
