Setting your profile photo in iMessage was not less than a dream until iOS 13 was released! If you too want to set a profile photo of your choice in iMessage, follow the below-given steps.
Step #1. Open iMessage App and tap on ••• (new ellipsis) on the top right corner.
Step #2. Now tap on Edit Name and Photo option from the bottom of the screen. Next is to tap on Edit option that’s visible on the photo.
Step #3. Now, under Suggestions section tap on Camera option. Capture an image, crop it correctly so that it fits in the circular frame and finally select your desired filter for that captured image.
Step #4. Tap on Done and you’ll see a new profile picture on your iMessage profile.
Step #5. If you don’t want to capture an original image and want to use a photo from your albums, repeat the above steps till step #2. Now, beside Suggestions option on the right, tap on All Photos, select photo from albums, move and scale it in the circular frame, tap on Choose, select the filter you would love to, tap on done!
Step #6. If you want to use an Animoji as your profile picture, repeat the above steps till step #2. Select the Animoji you like from the list; you’ll find different variations in single Animoji, select any one of them by clicking on camera shutter.
Step #7. Now, tap on choose, select a color of your choice and finally tap on done!
Step #8. If you want to create a Memoji of your choice, tap on ‘+’ symbol in Animoji section, and the customization of hairstyle, color, skin, eyes, nose, ears and lots more can be selected by your choice. Well, this is the best of all features I loved it personally in iMessage in iOS 13.

Step #2. Tap on the blank space beside the photo and enter the first name and last name.
Step #3. Tap on Done! It will now display your name along with the profile picture in your iMessage profile.
That’s it! It’s not mandatory to fill the name, if you keep it empty, your profile will show the name that’s being used in your Apple ID. And it’s not necessary to fill the last name, it’s completely fine to just use the first name only.

It’s likely that you don’t want each and every person messaging you to see profile photo and display name of yours. To make sure only your contacts can see them, follow any one of the below-given methods.
Step #1. Open iMessage app → Tap on (•••) three horizontal dots → Tap on Edit Name and Photo option on the bottom of the screen.
Step #2. Tap on Name and Photo Sharing and Toggle it ON.
Step #3. Now under share automatically section, select either Contacts Only or Always Ask as per your preference.
Step #1. Launch Settings App, scroll down to find Messages option, tap on it.
Step #2. Next, tap on Share Name and Photo option, and toggle it to ON.
Step #3. You’ll have options to choose from, Contacts Only or Always Ask just like method 1 above. Choose any one of them and close settings app.
