The other day I accidentally came across a hack to convert photos or videos to GIF with a shortcut on my iPhone while digging out the Shortcuts app. The moment my eyes fell on the quick way, I was like, “This one deserves to be included in my exclusive kitty of the best iOS 12 Siri Shortcuts!”
If you have tried your hands on the Shortcuts app, you may be aware that it offers two separate shortcuts for transforming images or clip into GIF. While many of you won’t mind that, some of you might want to shoot your fun-loving images or videos with a single shortcut for simplicity.

Should you like the thought of killing two birds with one stone, this guide is for you. To get going, you will have to first create a readymade shortcut that can get the job done for you.
Once you have customized it as per your workflow, creating hilarious GIFs, which can set your social media on fire, would be dead simple. Let me walk you through the steps!
Create a Shortcut to Convert Photos or Videos to GIF
Step #1. Launch Shortcuts app on your iOS device.
Step #2. Now, tap on Create Shortcut button.
Step #3. Next, enter Make GIF in the search field and select Make GIF.
Step #4. Enter Save File in the search and choose it.
Sticky Note: By default, your file will be saved in iCloud Drive. However, you can choose to save it in another cloud service like Dropbox. To do so, you need to tap on Service and select the preferred option.
Step #5. Next up, tap on the small settings icon at the top right.
Step #6. Now, give an appropriate name to the shortcut. Choose a nice icon from it.
Check out the option to run this shortcut using your voice. To do so, tap on Add to Siri → Tap on Record button → Speak/Type the phrase → Tap on Done to Confirm.
Step #7. Turn on the switch next to Show in Share Sheet.
Now, tap on Done at the top right. Tap on Done again to finish.
That’s it! You’ve successfully made a shortcut. Now, go ahead and convert your shots.
Convert Photos or Videos into GIFs with Shortcut on iPhone and iPad
Note: This hack doesn’t work with Live Photos. So, make sure to choose simple images.
Step #1. Open Photos app on your iOS device.
Step #2. Now, head over to the photos or videos you want to use.
Tap on Select and choose the preferred images or pick out a funny video then tap on Share button.
Step #3. Next, select Shortcuts app in the share sheet.
Note: If you haven’t yet used the Shortcuts app, it won’t appear in the share sheet. In this case, you need to add it. To do so, tap on More button and turn on the switch next to Shortcuts. Then, make sure to tap on Done to confirm.
Now, wait for some time until the app has fully prepared your images.
Step #4. Next up, hit the shortcut you have just created. The app will instantly convert your shot to GIF.
Now, save it at your preferred location by selecting the desired folder and hitting Add.
Convert Live Photos to GIF with Shortcut on iPhone
As mentioned, you need to create a separate shortcut to convert the Live Photos to GIFs on your iOS device. Once you have customized it, getting it done is quite simple. To start things off, hit the shortcut link → customize it → then select the live photos → run the shortcut → in the end, save it to your desired location.
