Many would agree that Skype is one of the best video calling apps on the grid today. Enriched with features, it is basically a telecommunications application that also facilitates voice calls, instant messages, files, and media sharing. Indeed a pioneer in the field, Skype has continually incorporated features to improve its interface and services.
Skype Brings New Features in Latest Update for iPhone and Mac
The very latest update further brought in some exciting features to both the Mac and iPhone. As per Skype, these new features could boost your productivity and enrich your chat experience. The new update includes options to :
- Bookmark – Bookmark a Skype Message on Mac and iPhone
- Split-screen – Multitask with the help split screen feature
- Draft Messages – The typed but unsent messages will be saved as a draft in your conversation.
- Media Preview – Media files can now be previewed before sending
- Media Display – A new display setting for multiple media files.

How to Bookmark Skype Messages on Mac and iPhone
This particular update has caught my attention the most. Earlier I have to go back to the conversation and search for a specific message, link, or picture that I needed. Now, I can simply bookmark them and have them all in one place.
Also, while I am checking the bookmarked message, I can come back to the original conversation. This way, I can see the whole discussion that happened around that particular bookmarked message.
How to Bookmark Any Message in Skype on Mac and iPhone
Step #1. Open the Skype app on your Mac or iPhone.
Step #2. Go to the Chats and select the message, file, or media you want to bookmark from the conversation.
Step #3. Right-click (for Mac) or tap and hold (for iPhone), choose to Add bookmark from the options.
The bookmark icon next to the message or attachment will appear, indicating the bookmarking.
To remove a bookmark, repeat steps #1 – #3 and choose to Remove bookmark from the menu.
You can also use the three vertical dots option next to the message or attachment on your Mac, to add or remove the bookmark. Click on the icon and choose the action from the menu.
How to View a Bookmark in Skype on iPhone and Mac
Step #1. Open the Skype app on your Mac and iPhone.
Step #2. Click/Tap on your Profile Picture and select Bookmarks from the menu options.
Step #3.Select the arrowhead icon; The conversation where the bookmark is located will open.
How to Copy, Forward or Remove/Delete Bookmark Messages in Skype on Mac and iPhone
Step #1. Open the Skype app on your Mac and iPhone.
Step #2. Click/Tap on your Profile Picture.
Step #3. Select Bookmarks from the menu options.
Step #4. Right-click (for Mac) or tap and hold (for iPhone) any bookmarked item.
Step #5. Select Copy/ Forward/ Remove accordingly.
Note that, when you forward a message or an attachment, the text in the message is quoted and the attachment has a Forwarded icon next to it. You can also use the three horizontal dots option next to the conversation on your Mac, to copy, forward, or remove bookmarked messages. Click on the icon and choose the action from the menu.
Interestingly, you can access your bookmarked messages from both your Mac and iPhone’s Skype app. If you want similar sync between your Safari bookmarks, follow these instructions.
How to Split Chat Screen in Skype App on iPhone and Mac
As the name suggests, this feature enables you to split your chat screens. Now you can converse with multiple persons with ease and can work on other apps along with the conversation.
This feature is for now only available for Mac, Windows, and Linux. Enabling the split-screen is quite easy. Click on the three horizontal dots next to your Profile Picture.
Select Enable Split Screen Option.
Adjust the size and position of the screen as per your convenience.

How to Draft Messages in Skype App on Mac and iPhone
At times you start to type a message but is distracted by something. Now you don’t have to lose that message; it will be saved as a draft in the corresponding conversation. It will be marked with the [draft] tag. Amazingly, the draft will exist even after you exist Skype and return.
How to Preview Media Files in Skype App on Mac and iPhone
You can easily select and send one or two pics to your contacts. However, when it comes to sharing multiple files, there might be some missing, some repeats and some unwanted images shares.
Skype’s latest update solves the issue by incorporating a media preview feature. Whether you select one or 10 images or video, a preview is shown. You can preview, click ‘+’ icon to add, and click ‘x’ to delete the media attachments accordingly.
You can also use these iPhone photo editing apps before uploading your images to Skype, to up your photos game.
How to Display Media Files in Skype App on iPhone and Mac
Did you like the stacked up version of viewing multiple pictures and videos, currently active in Whatsapp? Well, then you are in luck as Skype now has a similar feature. Instead of displaying below.
If you send more than one media file, instead of displaying one below the other, Skype now stacks them in a neat square. You can navigate and click on the images to see each one individually.
