Step #5. Now, choose the contact you want to block.

Step #6. You can add more people to the blocked list if you want by repeating steps 4 and 5.

By blocking a contact, you are effectively blocking the person from sending you any message via WhatsApp. Note that even after you’ve blocked, the person can see your ‘last seen at’ timestamp. This means although you’ve blocked any messages from the person, they can know when the last time you used WhatsApp was.

Also, any message they send doesn’t get the two-ticks that are typical of messages that are sent and delivered.

  1. I have the new iPhone 5s iOS 7. I wanted to block someone on whatsapp, but when I went into the chat settings, the block feature had disappeared!

    Do you know if anything has changed. People I’ve previously blocked are still blocked, but I can’t find feature to add more blocks?

    Help needed!

  2. Hi, I have found out that Whatsapp have relocated the Block feature in Settings. Please see below;

    Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Account > Privacy > Blocked, then tap the Add New button to add contacts from your address book to your block list.

  3. Its bizzare. How is it that I blocked someone and the person is still able to send me messages. This seem to be peculiar to this particular person as all others I similarly blocked were not able to send me messages.
