How to Back up your iOS Device in macOS Catalina
Step #1. First off, connect your iOS device to your Mac with a lighting cable.
Step #2. Next, Open Finder on your Mac.
In the “Locations” section at the left column of Finder window, you can see your iOS device. Click on your iPhone.
Step #3. Here, you can see all your iPhone information distributed in different tabs, which start with General. Click on General button.
Step #4. Then, look for the section labeled as “Backups” and finally make few changes within the Backup option as per your preferences.
You will find two different options to backup your iOS device. You can either select the option “Back up the most important data on your iPhone to iCloud,” or you can even select the other option, which is “Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this Mac.”
Note: If you select the first option, the data present on your iPhone or iPad will be transferred to iCloud. In case you select the second option, all the data will be transferred to the Mac with which you have connected your device.
In this step, you can also encrypt the backed up data on your Mac by checking the box next to the option “Encrypt local backup.” If you take this step, you need to set a password to encrypt your backup.
Step #5. After selecting all the appropriate options in the previous step, you need to back up your device by clicking on the “Back Up Now” button. However, you will also be able to back up your device by clicking on the “Sync” button present at the bottom of the current window.
How to Restore your iOS Device in macOS Catalina
Follow the first three steps as mentioned above.
Step #4. Now you need to look for the section labeled as “Backups” and finally click on the “Restore Backup” button.
Step #5. A new pop-up window will appear from where you need to select which back up data you want to restore. Select the appropriate data that you want to restore and then enter the password in the “Password” section.
Step #6. Finally, click on the “Restore” button to start the restoration process.
How to Manage your iOS Device Backups in macOS Catalina
While your iOS device is connected to your Mac running macOS Catalina, click on the “Manage Backup” button.
Here you will find that a pop-up window will appear which will contain a list of all the Device Backups.
Note: The list will contain two sections; in the left-hand side, you will find the name of the device that was backed up, and in the right-hand side, you will find the date and time at which the respective device is backed up.
Finally, select any one of the alternatives from the list and eventually click on the “Delete Backup” button.
