Sometimes, you accidentally or knowingly save the files and folders on your Mac desktop or the screenshots you take are directly stored over there. And everyone knows how boring the cleanup process is.
Still, we wish for a clean and neat desktop, as it’s easier to work on. Unwanted and unused icons can clutter up the space and make the Mac desktop look untidy. Moreover, excess icons on the desktop can hinder your work too.
If you are facing a similar problem, you can easily hide or remove your desktop icons by using a few simple steps and giving simple commands.
Here is How to Hide or Remove Icons from the Mac Desktop:
Step #1. Open “Finder” on your Mac
Step #2. Click on “Finder” from the top menu
Step #3. Now click Preferences
Step #4. In the General tab there will be various options such as hard disks, drives, iPods, connected servers etc. Uncheck all of them.
Step #5. You will notice that many icons from your desktop are now gone (hidden).
Step #1. Start Applications and then select Utilities.
Step #2. Click on “Terminal.”
Step #3. In that screen type the command:
defaults write "com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool fals"
Step #4. Press Enter and then type second command:
Step #5. Again, Press Enter
Now, all icons from your desktop are hidden and you can enjoy a clean and neat desktop.
Step #1. You can also simply drag the icons from desktop to another folder for removing it.
Step #2. Click and drag the unwanted icons to Trash to remove them. Alternatively, you can also right click on the icon and choose “Move to Trash.”
Note: All the icons and stuff you had on your desktop are only hidden. You can access them in Finder → Desktop.
