I have a fetish for Quick Reply tweaks. Even before Apple decided to introduce this handy feature in iOS 8, folks in the jailbreak community had produced a lot of quick-reply tweaks.
Here’s one more minimalist quick-reply tweak for your iPhone that works almost similar to the default quick reply feature in iOS 8 but with a little twist. It’s called Hermes, and it’s up for grabs on Cydia.
Hermes is a minimalist and a well-focused implementation of the quick reply feature. At the moment, Hermes for iPhone integrates with iMessage, Whatsapp and Kik. Hermes’s is open-source and the code shows files for Skype too; which could probably mean that more third-party apps will be integrated into the tweak in future.
What is particularly different about Hermes from the current iOS 8-style quick reply is that when you tap on “Reply”, the reply text-field opens up like an alert notification rather than as a part of the banner. You can see that in the images below.
Hermes works on all iOS 7.x-running iPhones. So far, there are no stutters or problems with the tweak. It works just fine.
Hermes does not come with any configuration. All you need to do is switch on the app (Whatsapp, iMessage, Kik) from within Settings → Hermes.
Most recently, we covered Interactive Message Notifications, a tweak that worked exactly like iOS 8′s quick reply. Interface-wise, Hermes puts an alert-modal for the quick reply instead of going for the banner-style but I think this is much cleaner and focused.
The idea of quick reply is not to leave the current app just to reply to a message and both the tweaks get it done correctly.
Hermes is available on Cydia’s BigBoss repo for $0.99.
