After getting bad press for Chinese spy chips in iCloud servers, Apple receives good news, and that too from China. In the middle of lukewarm response for the flagship iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max in India, Ming-Chi Kuo’s report paints a hopeful picture for the tech giant.
According to the reports from this well-known analyst, many consumers in China are either looking for older iPhone models or waiting for the release of iPhone XR on October 26 this year.
Apple Expects Stronger Demand of iPhone XR Than iPhone 8 in China
Citing reasons for this stronger demand of iPhone XR, Kuo says that Chinese consumers spend a lot of bucks during the first week of October, i.e., Golden Week in China. During this week, most domestic smartphone makers have seen sales fall year on year.
Moreover, Kuo also believes that local manufacturers lag in innovation. This could be the reason why Chinese consumers are keener to buy iPhone XR.
The analyst also believes that iPhone XR replacement demand in China is likely to be higher than last year’s cycle with iPhone 8.
The only local brand that performs well is Huawei, which has seen an increase in shipments. Other companies like Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi posted weak results. Kuo’s report claims that there is a 10% fall in shipments from the major Chinese phone brands.
Kuo gives valid reasons for the likely success of iPhone XR. Contemporary screen design, better pricing than iPhone 8 Plus, dual-SIM support, and several color options are cited as reasons for the possible success of iPhone XR, which might beat the sales of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
Notably, iPhone XR can be preordered on October 19, and the first units will be dispatched on October 26.
About the sales of iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max, reports are not clear how the two phones are performing in China.
For Apple, eastern markets play a significant role, as China and India are crowded marketplaces. The huge population and growing purchasing power of middle- and upper-middle class are the biggest opportunities for any smartphone company, let alone Apple.
Moreover, there were many guesstimates about iPhone XR to be a device for third-world markets. By this equation, Apple can expect handsome sales of iPhone XR in India as well.
