How to Get Accurate ECG Readings on Apple Watch Series 4

There are some dos and don'ts that you must keep in mind to record ECG perfectly on your Apple Watch Series 4. Jump right in to find out the tips to have the most accurate EKG readings!

After a long wait, Apple recently rolled out ECG app on Apple Watch Series 4 with watchOS 5.1.2 update. While it’s pretty simple to take EKG on the watch, some users might not be able to get the desired result. If you are one of them, then the below tips can help you get the much better ECG readings on your Apple Watch Series 4.

Apple has mentioned some of the essential things to keep in mind before recording the electrocardiogram. We’ve also added a few points that could make a difference. And if you take care of them, you will be able to get the most accurate readings.

How to Take the Best ECG Readings on Apple Watch Series 4

#1. Ensure That Your Finger Is Not Sweaty

Before going to record the ECG on your Apple Watch, make sure your finger is clean and dry. It’s because sweat could hinder you from getting the best readings.

#2. Keep Your Apple Watch and Wrist Dry

It’s better to keep both the wrist and smartwatch dry. Yeah, the stickier they are, the less accurate outcome you will get. So, make sure they are up to the mark.

#3. Be Sure Your Smartwatch Is Snug Fit

Another thing to keep in mind is to make sure the watch is tight on your wrist. If the smartwatch is loose, you won’t get the better result.

#4. Ensure that Your Apple Watch is On the Wrist (Left/Right)

This is yet another important thing to note. Be sure your watch is on the wrist you had selected in the Watch app during setup.

You can head over to Apple Watch app → My Watch → General → Watch Orientation to ensure the wearable device is on the selected wrist.

#5. Put Electrical Interference Away

Electrical interference could prevent the ECG app from working properly. Therefore, it’s advisable to move away from Active electronics, which are plugged into an outlet, to prevent electrical interference.

#6. Be Relax and Rest Your Arm

Next up, be as relaxed as possible and do not move. And let your arms rest on a table or in your lap. It’s a very significant part so make sure to remain calm.

#7. Gently Hold Your Finger on The Digital Crown

Apple recommends you to hold your finger on the Digital Crown gently. Therefore, do not try to press the button.

#8. Wait for 30 Seconds

Last but not least, you must wait for 30 seconds until the ECG recording is successfully completed. Once it’s done, you should see the classification.

That’s pretty much it!

Earlier it was expected that EKG app (despite the restriction) could be downloaded through the geo-switching trick. But that didn’t happen as Apple strictly restricted its availability. The biggest roadblock in its path is the must-have certification from health regulatory authority.

Nevertheless, I’m expecting the app to start rolling out to other neighboring countries like Canada in the near future. Let me know your feedback about ECG app and how effectively it’s working on your smartwatch.
