Apple has announced this facility for students belonging to Clemson University, Georgetown University, University of Tennessee, University of Kentucky, University of San Francisco, University of Vermont, Arkansas State University, South Dakota State University, Norfolk State University, Louisburg College, University of North Alabama and Chowan University.

“We’re happy to add to the growing number of schools that are making getting around campus easier than ever with iPhone and Apple Watch,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services. “We know students love this feature. Our university partners tell us that since launch, students across the country have purchased 1.25 million meals and opened more than 4 million doors across campuses by just tapping their iPhone and Apple Watch.”

All a student needs to do is to add Student ID in the Apple Wallet and carry the iPhone or Apple Watch to be placed over a reader that senses the student’s data and allows authorized entry to the premises in question.

Contactless Student ID in Apple Wallet App is already functional at Duke University, the University of Oklahoma, University of Alabama, Temple University, Johns Hopkins University, Marshall University, and Mercer University, informs the release.

Contactless Student ID Calls for More – Digital Purchases to Grow

Convenience is the mantra for this Contactless Student ID as the iPhone or Apple Watch needs to be placed near the sensor that validates apart from allowing one to access the area approached.

Digital purchases enable students to no more carry cash nor wallets or purses as personal effects or in their school bags, reducing drudgery and eliminating the risks of losing the same.

Also, Apple is said to be adding industry leaders for campus credentials and mobile access – CBORD, Allegion and HID to facilitate more students to add their student IDs to Apple Wallet, says the release.
