How to Fix Issue of Apps Getting Stuck While Updating on iPhone/iPad
Reboot Your Device
Rebooting is the first option you should go for in any damn situation. Just press and hold Sleep/Wake button and Home button simultaneously until the phone shuts down. Hold the buttons till Apple logo appears on your device's screen.
If you are not able to update app in your iPhone or there is no progress in the update, it is better to delete the app from iTunes and start afresh.
Step #1. Connect your iPhone with iTunes on Mac or Windows computer.
Step #2. Click on your iPhone icon in iTunes.
Step #3. Click on Apps under the Settings section on left side of iTunes screen.
On the right side of iTunes screen, you can see a list of apps; next to it is Home Screens.
Step #4. Double-click on a Home Screen where the app is stuck.
Step #5. Click on the app in question.
You can see a delete sign (x) on upper left corner of app icon.
Step #6. Tap on the delete sign.
The app will be deleted quickly. Then, click on the Apply button from the bottom of iTunes screen.
Now you can start downloading the app again.
Users who own iPad have found that they couldn't delete the apps using iTunes as it has got only option available, and that is: Update. So there is a workaround for this problem.
Step #1. Launch Settings app on your iDevice → Tap on General.
Step #2. Tap on Storage & iCloud Usage → Now tap on Manage Storage from under STORAGE section.
Step #3. Tap on the app that upsets you.
Step #4. Tap on Delete App.
A menu will swipe up asking you for confirmation.
Step #5. Tap on Delete App.
The app will be deleted immediately.
Reset All Settings
If you don't want to delete the app and still want to fix the issue, you should try this option.
Step #1. Launch Settings app on your iPhone/iPad → Tap on General.
Step #2. Scroll down and tap on Reset → Now tap on Reset All Settings option.
You will be prompted to enter passcode.
Step #3. Enter the passcode.
Now you will be asked to confirm this action.
Step #4. Confirm the action by tapping on Reset All Settings from a menu appeared from the bottom of device's screen.
Above action will change your device Settings back to factory default and your apps will not be deleted.
Toggle ON & OFF Updates
This comes as rather weird suggestion but sometimes it works. Toggle Updates ON and OFF from iTunes & App Stores.
Step #1. Launch Settings app.
Step #2. Scroll down and tap on iTunes & App Store.
You will find four options under AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS: Music, Apps, Books and Updates.
Step #3. Toggle Updates ON and OFF.
