India had a special place in hearts of Steve Jobs, the place from where he was inspired during the initial stages of Apple. Apple has already a strong presence in other Asian countries, but because of few Indian regulations, Apple does not have their official stores in India yet. This is soon going to change, as the Indian government has eased the regulations.
Even though Apple doesn’t have its official store or supply chain in India, the Cupertino giant has managed to win hearts of Indians.
Milestone by Apple in India – Records 800K iPhone Shipment in December Quarter
According to the data from Counterpoint Research, iPhone sales in India have jumped up to 800K in December quarter compared to 500K a year ago.
Apple has achieved this figure with aggressive marketing, even though; prices of iPhone in India are comparatively higher than other countries. Back in 2015, Apple achieved a remarkable milestone of $1 Billions of sales in India, without having its official presence in the territory.
Coming back to the data, it is noted that out of 800K units, 30% was contributed by iPhone 5s while half of the total units sold was contributed by the latest iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
Back in 2014, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus contributed 70% of the total units sold. This is a serious concern even though the overall unit sales are higher in the year 2015.
Before few days, Apple has asked Indian regulators for permission to open their official stores in the country. Once Apple is through the formalities, we can expect tremendous growth in terms of sales and revenue.
India is a potential country for Apple, and the company won’t be ignoring that.
